GALA CONFERENCE TO PROMOTE PUFFINS IMPOSSIBLE STARRING JOHNNY DEPP AND ONE YEAR OF OPERATIONS IN SERBIA

The day culminated with a gala conference, organized at Geozavod building in Belgrade, to present Iervolino Studios accomplishments over the past year and joint success with Archangel Digital Studios, where the first shots of the series were presented.  The conference underlined the importance that animated content with the mark “Made in Serbia” has on the local creative industry. 

 

Andrea Iervolino, CEO and founder, and Lady Monica Bacardi, honorary president of Iervolino Studios and Iervolino&Lady Bacardi Entertainment, together with Miloš Biković, founder of Archangel Digital Studios, joined Johnny at the gala conference to celebrate the end of production on season one of their first series in the presence of numerous media, excellencies, official guests and friends from the world of film, creative industries, arts and social scene. Prime Minister Ana Brnabić addressed the media and the guests. 

“I had this great fortune to be introduced to Serbian culture and people a long time ago now and ever since, life has brought me back to this wonderful place. I was instantly amazed by the charm, warmth, beauty and professionalism of local people and from what I’ve seen so far regarding the Puffins Impossible series, I have no doubt that many more directors, actors, animators and other creatives will come here and join this project. Serbia is the perfect opposite of Hollywood“, said Johnny Depp in his speech. 

So far, the creators of the project have developed a total of 54 episodes of the „Puffins Impossible“ series and Iervolino Studios announced investments in the production of 80 new episodes in 2022, with the desire for that number to reach even 100.

 

“During the last fifteen months, we have achieved an amazing result that I must admit I was sceptical about at first. However, to my biggest pleasure, our creative team in Serbia has surpassed all my expectations – and more. Until now, we have reached a number of more than 100 employees and I strongly believe that in the next 4-5 years we will achieve our goal of 560 people in the IES studio. Apart from „just“ hiring, we are also working on educating those people and that is why we started an internal training program lasting for four months, after which they get the job. Since 8 out of 10 trainees got hired, I think we are doing an amazing job“ , said Andrea Iervolino, CEO and co-founder of Iervolino Studios and Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, who also announced that he is happy to announce that he got a Serbian passport. 

Since June 2020, Iervolino Studios has invested 25 million euros in the production of animated content and the development of two production studios in Belgrade and Novi Sad, followed by a special production pipeline.

“Today’s business models require flexibility regardless of the product being created. Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment therefore designed a unique model for the production of animated content and it was used when working on the Puffins Impossible series. It is a process that allows to create in Serbia as efficiently as in the rest of the world. I believe that with this production model, the animation industry in Serbia will soon stand side by side with Hollywood“, said Lady Monika Bacardi, honorary president of Iervolino Studios and Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment.

Iervolino Studios started working in Serbia only a year ago, thanks to the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and strategic cooperation with the production company Archangel Digital Studios, founded by Miloš Biković. He emphasized the fact that joint projects mean a lot for the entire creative industry of Serbia.

 

“With the arrival of Iervolino Studios, our animation industry gained know-how in the range of those used by Disney and Pixar. By working together, we strive to create an environment in which animation becomes a competitive production activity and jobs in the animation sector in Serbia sought after local, but also foreign artists. I thank the country of Serbia for its support and I’m looking forward to future projects”, said Miloš Biković, owner and founder of Archangel Digital Studios.

In addition to presenting the teaser poster, trailer and inserts from the episodes the Wonder  Strings quartet played music from the series Puffins Impossible, composed by Nemanja Mosurovic

Puffins Impossible is an animated series that follows the adventures of five Arctic birds – Johnny Puff, Didi, Pie, Tic and Tac. With the help and guidance of mentor Johnny Puff, the four birds are transformed into a unique team of superheroes, who, despite mutual disagreements and discussions, leave all differences aside in times of trouble and help their furry colleagues together. The series deals with the topics of equality and ecology in a fun and avant-garde way, in the desire to draw the public’s attention to the current challenges that our planet faces every day.

 

More to come about the first year of the studio whose focus is to create great stories that will change the animation landscape in Serbia.

JOHNNY DEPP OFFICIALLY OPENED THE BRANCH OF IERVOLINO STUDIOS IN BELGRADE AND PROMOTED NEW SERIAL „PUFFINS IMPOSSIBLE“

Serbia now has its first animated series entitled “Puffins Impossible”. The series, produced in Serbia, was created by the local Iervolino Studios and produced by Archangel Digital Studios with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia. On Tuesday 19 of October 2021, we celebrated our first year of operation with a full day of promotionally activity for “Puffins Impossible” with legendary special guest Johnny Depp, who voices the main role of Johnny Puff in the new series. 

 

Legendary star Johnny Depp officially opened our studio in Belgrade.  Thanks to Andrea Iervolino, CEO and founder, and Lady Monica Bacardi, honorary president of Iervolino Studios and Iervolino&Lady Bacardi Entertainment, we couldn’t have been more excited to have the star of so many of the movies we grew up with and the character we have been drawing and animating for the past year in our offices.  Miloš Biković, owner of Archangel Digital Studio who persuaded Andrea to open the studio in Serbia, was also there for the celebration.  

 

On this occasion, Johnny was able to see where his character Johnny Puff was drawn, animated and edited for the new series “Puffins Impossible.” He talked to the artists and employees in the studio; visited all sectors and addressed the colleagues in the studio in Novi Sad via zoom.  

  

The studio in Belgrade was officially opened with the signing of the Johnny Puff figurine, which was specially created for this occasion by our famous animator Stevica Živkov, who now has the scarf that Depp was wearing during the studio visit.

The sixth edition of the Italian-Serbian Film Festival is currently ongoing at the Yugoslav Cinematheque. Apart from the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Serbia Carlo Lo Cascio, artistic director of the festival Gabriella Carlucci, then Marjan Vujović, director of the Museum of the Yugoslav Cinematheque and Roberto Cincotta, director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade, our director of marketing and communications Anđelka Janković, as well as Miloš Biković, our strategic partner and founder of the production company Archangel Digital Studios also gave their speeches at the press conference on the occasion of the festival opening.   

As a company with Italian heritage and headquarters in Serbia, Iervolino Studios is an ideal example and result of the festival organizers’ efforts to bring closer these two countries, which have always been tightly connected in the field of culture and art. With two uniquely designed studios in Belgrade and Novi Sad, equiped with the latest innovative technologies, and more than hundred employees and external associates, Iervolino Studios celebrated its first birthday in Serbia a month ago.

„Although 2020 was difficult and uncertain in every possible sense, we marked a successful first year on our calendars. Apart from numerous international projects of our parent company, that our artists participated in, the biggest success of Iervolino Studios was creation of an animated series with superheroes, as well as feature films with animations and special effects, whose details will be revealed very soon“, said Anđelka Janković and invited all film lovers to see the movie Eddie & Sunny, produced by Iervolino Studios founder Andrea Iervolino, that will be shown at the Festival on Septembar 21 at 20:30.

Our strategic partner Miloš Biković agreed that a lot has been achieved in the previous year, when it comes to the collaboration of Iervolino Studios and Archangel Digital Studios.  

„Creating 54 episodes of this long-awaited series is a huge success for local artists, because together we managed to start up and systematize the animated industry, and thus attract people from all over the world to come to Serbia and work on some new, future projects. I hope that there will be even more of them and that we will just continue to grow and create”, said Miloš Biković, on the occasion of the opening of the Italian-Serbian Film Festival in Belgrade.  

 

Of course, we do not plan to stop there, but to further expand our capacity and portfolio, and that is why we are constantly looking for some new talented people and we can’t wait to hear their story and become a part of it. In addition, Iervolino Studios plans to invest in the development of animation in Serbia through cooperation with the local and Italian academic community, and through the support of initiatives and projects in the field of animation and socially responsible business.

IERVOLINO AND LADY BACARDI ENTERTAINMENT: NEW NAME AND BRAND IDENTITY

We are proud to announce that our mother company Iervolino Entertainment changed its corporate name to Iervolino and Lady Bacardi Entertainment (ILBE), the company, engaged in the production of cinematographic, web and television content for the international market and listed on the AIM Italia stock exchange. The company also presented an overall renewal of the brand’s visual presentation. 

Thanks to the work of the Group’s Marketing division, ILBE now presents itself with a new logo, a new look for its website (renamed ilbegroup.it) and a new image for all its social profiles. 

The name “Iervolino and Lady Bacardi Entertainment” was created to give the company an international appeal as it goes through a new phase of growth driven by an increasing attention to foreign markets. The idea was thus to include the name of Lady Monika Bacardi, a successful and internationally known female entrepreneur, the company’s largest shareholder and producer of all its film projects. 

This was followed by a full rebranding process, including the birth of a new logo inspired by the structural elements of the film reel: a harmonious system of letters, of shapes that fit together by means of joints and links, to evoke the connection, the union, the compactness of ideas, of people, of the company. 

At the same time, ILBE’s renewed brand expresses the plurality and dynamism of an international company: the brand was designed in a “reassuring” frame that makes the graphics stable and solid, but at the same time dynamic through the changing elements. 

In defining the new logo, the company’s team was supported by the buonsante+torro agency.

ANIMATED SERIES „PUFFINS“ IS THE MOST WATCHED TITLE ON APPLE TV

Short animated series „Puffins“, produced by Iervolino Entertainment and in whose creation participated also the employees from the local Iervolino Studios, has reached the first place in viewership, only one week after its release on Apple TV.   

„I’m extremely glad to see that our ideas and creative approach to important social matters, such as race and gender equality, as well as environment protection, have encountered great reception among viewers. I believe that even such complex issues can be made attractive to the youngest audience, as raising awareness about hot topics is exactly our goal, apart from offering good-quality entertainment“, said Andrea Iervolino, the director and owner of the production company Iervolino Entertainment, which started doing business in Serbia this year.     

Animated series „Puffins“ follows adventures of five Arctic birds, helpers of the cunning walrus named Otto, while the main role was entrusted to Johnny Depp, whose voice, looks and certain personality traits helped creating the character of Johnny Puff. The series deals with the topics of equality and ecology in a fun and avant-garde manner, in order to draw the public attention to the current challenges our planet is facing every day. 

This series of 250 five-minute episodes represents a spin-off of the animated film „Arctic Dogs“, which also won the hearts of viewers all over the world and especially in the USA, where it is ranked as the third most watched title on Netflix. „Puffins“ are available on Apple TV and Amazon Prime digital platforms.

THE ART OF STORYBOARD – A PLACE WHERE FILM AND COMICS MEET

At the Great Hall of the Student Cultural Centre, a panel discussion on the topic Storyboard – a graphically visualized “Story” about the future screen adaptation of a certain script, was held within the broader project of the author Marija Ristić, art historian. The Storyboard project is educational and consists of a video presentation of selected works by foreign and domestic authors, represented in films, animated films and commercials, as well as of the first exhibition dedicated exclusively to storyboard in Serbia, presented in the Happy Gallery of SCC, which helps affirm this discipline within contemporary art. 

At the panel, during which the audience had the opportunity to hear direct experiences in working with storyboards or their application in the pre-production phase of a film, the participants were Rastko Ćirić, Professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Peter Nalli, Director of Animation and Visual Effects at Iervolino Entertainment, Dragutin Vukelić, Illustrator at Iervolino Studios, as well as illustrators and storyboard artists Borivoje Grbić, Radomir Izgarević i Bojan Debenak, while the moderator was the author of the project itself, Marija Ristić.  

“Storyboard is the most noticeable spot where comics and film come together, but, unlike them, it does not require complete storytelling and does not address the audience directly, but the film crew. It is also extremely important for producers, cameramen and all members of the author’s team. However, this exhibition also raises some new questions as it demystifies the process of making the film. The storyboard, viewed as one of the stages of pre-production and exhibited in this way, shows that it can also exist as a separate art form”, Marija Ristić stated and added that, in addition to cooperation with educational institutions and art academies, and students who are studying there, the support of large production companies is very important for such initiatives.  

This was recognized by the newly established company for the production of short animated films, Iervolino Studios, which operates in Serbia as a branch of the international production Iervolino Entertainment, and whose representatives shared their experience and expertise with those present.   

“I don’t think I’ve been to an exhibition of this type since Disneyland, when I had the opportunity to see exclusively the works of local storyboard artists, which says a lot about its quality. We are pleased to support artists, their projects and initiatives, because with the development of technology, computers are faster, and location is not nearly as important as artists. People who create content on that state-of-the-art equipment are crucial”, Peter Nalli, director of animation and visual effects at Iervolino Entertainment, stated. “During our work with people in Serbia so far and exchange of experiences, we realized that this is a country of really great artistic talents and potentials. Some of them are already working at Iervolino Studios, but our doors are always open for new creators with new ideas, who are not even aware of what they can do. “

IERVOLINO ENTERTAINMENT IS THE FIRST BY VIEWERSHIP ON STREAMING PLATFORMS

A little over a month ago, the production company Iervolino Entertainment opened its first studio in Serbia for the production of short animated content in Novi Sad. Today, the short animated series Arctic Friends, with the signature of this company continued the glory of its predecessor Arctic Justice, reaching the first place of the most watched children and family films on Apple TV, as well as the second place in the general classification of films on the same platform in Italy, where the series recently premiered.

The story follows the polar fox Swifty, who finally got her dream job – she will deliver packages around the North Pole, together with her inseparable friends, a polar bear named PB and the red fox Jade. The only obstacle on the way to the title of “Best Arctic Delivery Man” is represented by the cunning walrus Otto von Walrus and his mischievous assistants – Puffins, who make the work of these unusual couriers more difficult every day…

The first 30 employees have already started working in the Novi Sad studio, while the evaluation and employment of new staff is still ongoing, as well as the plans to open the next studio in Belgrade. This project is also specific because all phases of the creative process will take place here, and the finished product will be the intellectual property of the state of Serbia. In the initial phase, all content produced in our country will be based on the world-famous animated film Arctic Justice, which was the third most watched film on Netflix in America. 

The production of this short animated series is signed by Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi, and in cooperation with the companies Paradox Studios and WWPS, which also own digital rights to distribute content.

“I am very proud of this collaboration and the success we have achieved on digital platforms. Our studio is currently focused on the development and production of exceptional short content, adapted to mobile and streaming services. Moreover, I am convinced that in the next ten years, as much as 98% of all content will be short-format and consumed on mobile devices”, Andrea Iervolino, director and founder of the production company Iervolino Entertainment, said. His satisfaction is shared by Luca Matrundola, co-founder and CEO of WWPS, who pointed out that they will work together to ensure that future products experience the same success.

IERVOLINO STUDIOS STARTED WORKING IN SERBIA

Today in Novi Sad, the first studio for the production of short animated content in Serbia – Iervolino Studios, was opened. The event was attended by the founder and director of the production company Iervolino Entertainment, Andrea Iervolino and Miloš Biković, our famous actor and partner in this project, as well as the first 30 employees in the Novi Sad studio. 

“This project is a huge opportunity for Serbia and the local young people who are engaged in art. The plan is to employ almost 600 people from the profession over the years, with large investments in the production of animated content, which we will then export all over the world”, Andrea Iervolino said. He added that all phases of the creative process will be realized here – from the initial idea, design, post-production and later distribution, and that the finished product will be the intellectual property of the state of Serbia.  

In June this year, Iervolino Entertainment signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Serbia and the production company Archangel Digital Studios, owned by Miloš Biković, which envisages that an Italian production company invests at least 8.5 million EUR in the project of establishing Iervolino Studios in Serbia.  

“I am very grateful to Andrea for the trust he has given to our country, because it is a clear signal that there is great talent among young people in Serbia who are engaged in creative work. The construction of such a large studio and the launch of the highest quality production opens new possibilities for Serbian cinematography, and I believe that this project will help to send a positive image of Serbia to the world “, Miloš Biković said.   

After Novi Sad, the company Iervolino Studios plans to open branches in Belgrade in mid-September, as well as throughout Serbia in the coming period.
